Beijing Districts Host Youth Sports Events for Hundreds Annually
Xicheng, Mentougou and the National Olympic Sports Centre Stadium host events drawing hundreds of young competitors each year.

The 2026 Youth Martial Arts Tournament placed nearly 1,300 young athletes from 87 organizations into competition across Beijing's Xicheng and Mentougou districts.
These gatherings occur as Beijing maintains a focus on youth physical activity through repeated use of existing local venues. The pattern aligns with school programs that recorded 194,000 class-based sports competitions in the first half of 2025 and roughly 5 million student participations.
Venues in Xicheng and Mentougou
The decade-long martial arts event set a participation record when it used facilities in the two districts for 138 subcategories. Organizers relied on established district spaces rather than new construction to accommodate the scale. The same approach supported the June 2026 Happy Run International Youth and Family Sports Carnival, which drew nearly 600 participants including diplomats' children from 33 embassies.
Local schools supplement these events through the citywide Class Super League. That program channels students into repeated matches on school grounds and nearby public fields already equipped for team sports.
National Olympic Sports Centre Stadium
The stadium hosted the Premier League's Next Gen Beijing Cup last month, marking the first staging of that youth tournament in China. Its track, field and seating infrastructure allowed international teams to compete without additional temporary builds. Earlier events such as the 2025 UIPM Obstacle World Championships, which brought more than 2,000 athletes for a 3,000-meter course, demonstrated the same venue's capacity for obstacle and multi-discipline formats.
Beijing continues to schedule emerging sports including BMX, pickleball and rock climbing alongside the Beijing Youth Three Major Balls Open on these shared sites. The combination keeps daily use high while avoiding the need for single-purpose facilities.
Organizers will next allocate the same district fields and the National Olympic Sports Centre Stadium to the next round of school and club calendars already under way.
